Wirral Symphony Orchestra presents: “Romantic”
at Hoylake Chapel – 7:30pm on Saturday 29th October 2016
- Berlioz – Overture: ‘Roman Carnival’
- Mozart – Clarinet Concerto in A
Soloist: Katherine Lacy (Basset Clarinet)
- Bruckner – Symphony No 4 in E flat: ‘Romantic’
Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto was one of the final compositions written before his tragically early death, and it has become one of the best-loved of his works. Here it will be performed on the instrument Mozart originally wrote for, the Basset Clarinet, by Kath Lacy, Principal Clarinet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Anton Bruckner was a famous contradiction -musically a radical, writing works of immense scale, but personally a devout and humble man. The Romantic is the most popular of his symphonies, written at the height of the nineteenth century Romantic Movement, complete with images of knights, hunters, mediaeval cities and pastoral scenes. The concert opens with Berlioz’s rollicking Roman Carnival Overture.
